|

The women who inspired Vaughan Williams.
This Friday – to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Vaughan Williams – BBC4 broadcasts a new documentary called The Passions of Vaughan Williams - a musical and psychological portrait of one of our best loved composers. At its heart, is the complicated story of Vaughan Williams ‘high-minded’ marriage to one of Virginia’s Woolfe’s cousins – Adeline - and his great love affair with Ursula who eventually became his second wife. Vaughan Williams was a man who had a great affect on women and they, in turn, inspired him to write some of his most passionate music. To discuss the loves and life of one of the giants of 20th-century English music, Jenni is joined by John Bridcut - the director of The Passions of Vaughan Williams – and by arts journalist Lynne Walker.
The Passions of Vaughan Williams can be seen on BBC4 on Friday, 23rd May at 8.00pm.
